Hi, when using the messenger add-on, I am seeing my own avatar next to the usernames of the individuals I am chatting with. I see their unique avatars on the Friends tab and the Requests tab, but the Chats tab shows my own avatar next to each name. I assume that isn't by design?

That is strange there are some minor fixes I'm working on and will include this. I will look into this it should not be happening.
 
I've found the issue. In simple terms, the Chats tab is sometimes being given the wrong avatar information for the other person, so it can end up displaying your own avatar instead. I'm working on correcting that now along with a couple of other small issues I've noticed. Thanks for bringing it to my attention, I shouldn't be too long getting this sorted.

I found the cause. The Chats tab was resolving the conversation participant incorrectly in some cases, which is why it could show your own avatar next to the other person instead of theirs. I’ve corrected that so it now uses the other participant’s current XenForo avatar throughout the chat view.

There are still a couple of unrelated bugs I’m actively working through, but I prioritised this one first because it was affecting you directly. I’m aiming to have the updated version out either tonight or tomorrow. I am about to send you the patch just overwrite the current files and please let me know if it still exists or resolved it :-)
