A substantial round of Eggy Pool updates will be released later today across the base game, Expansion Hub and AI Opponents.
This update includes major improvements to mobile play, further gameplay refinements and the introduction of a completely new Tournament system for Expansion Hub.
Ball movement now includes proper visual rolling rather than the balls simply appearing to slide across the table, alongside further refinements to physics and pocket behaviour.
Mobile support has also received a major overhaul.
When Eggy Pool is opened on a phone in portrait mode, players will now be prompted to Rotate to Play. Once the phone is turned into landscape mode, they can tap to enter fullscreen, giving the game a much more focused and natural mobile experience.
The landscape interface has been designed specifically for mobile play, with a compact gameplay HUD, separate aiming and power controls, improved safe area handling and much more space dedicated to the table itself.
The Safety and Call Shot systems are also being removed. Players will simply be able to aim and take their shot without additional selections or artificial restrictions getting in the way. The game will continue to judge the actual result of the shot through the normal rules, including fouls, scratches, first contact, group rules and the 8 ball.
Forfeit has also been integrated properly into the landscape gameplay interface, including its own confirmation screen and improved end of match options.
The new Tournament Centre allows members to create and join 4, 8 and 16 player single elimination tournaments, follow tournament brackets as they progress and view completed tournaments and their champions.
Tournaments have their own dedicated area within Expansion Hub and are being introduced as a completely new feature with this update.
The wider Hub has also received extensive mobile landscape work across:
Tournaments
Clubs
Leaderboards
My Stats
Trophies
Cue Shop
On phones, these areas are being adapted around the same landscape experience as the game itself. Players will first be prompted to rotate their device, then can tap to enter fullscreen once landscape mode is active.
Navigation between Pool Hall and Hub features is also being moved towards an AJAX driven experience on mobile, helping keep players inside the fullscreen Pool interface rather than repeatedly loading full XenForo pages.
The Pool Hall itself has also been reworked for mobile so it feels much more like an actual game lobby rather than a desktop page squeezed onto a smaller screen.
The existing AI challenge system has been integrated more closely with the new mobile landscape experience. Choosing a difficulty, entering a match and progressing through an AI game is now designed to remain within the fullscreen Pool interface.
Just like the base game, players on phones are prompted to Rotate to Play, followed by Tap for Fullscreen once in landscape mode.
The AI match end screen has also been improved with dedicated options for:
Rematch
Change Difficulty
Return to Pool Hall
AI matches also inherit the base game changes, including the removal of the player facing Safety and Call Shot systems.
Desktop gameplay remains fully supported throughout these changes. The mobile work is specifically aimed at making Eggy Pool feel much more like a proper landscape browser game on phones while leaving the existing desktop experience intact.
The updated versions of Eggy Pool, Expansion Hub and AI Opponents are planned to be available later today.
