Announcement What free add-on should I build next?

I want to put the next free Eggy add-on in your hands.

Rather than me sitting here deciding what I think site owners would find useful, I’d rather hear directly from the people actually running communities and using XenForo every day.

What would you genuinely like to see made next?

It can be something small and practical, something that improves engagement, something for moderation, member activity, content, administration, quality of life, or even an idea you’ve wanted for a while but haven’t seen anyone build properly.

A few things I’m interested in hearing:

• What problem would it solve for your site?
• Would you actually install and use it?
• Is there anything similar already available that you think could be done better?
• What would make it useful enough that you’d keep it installed long term?

Don’t worry about whether the idea sounds too simple. Sometimes the smaller additions end up being the most useful.

Post your ideas below, reply to other suggestions you like, and if several people are asking for the same sort of thing I’ll take that into account when deciding what gets built next.

The plan is for the chosen add-on to be released free.

We run a roleplaying forum and the one mod we could use is one that links user accounts together. There have been add-ons like that before, but they seem to be left after a while, turn into 'unmaintained' and pretty soon stop working for a newer version of XF due to outdated code. So, something like that - for our community - would be amazing. I also realize that it's a pretty 'niche' modification, one that only applies to certain types of communities. Still, I figured I'd post it here, just in case, hehe... and will keep thinking of other add-on possibilities, in the meantime.

That’s actually something I’d be interested in working on.

Although your use case is roleplaying and linking character accounts together, I can see it having a much wider use beyond RPG communities. There are plenty of situations where someone may legitimately manage multiple XenForo accounts and want a clean, secure way to link and switch between them.

I’d want to keep the core simple and reliable first, with proper account linking and secure switching, then there’s plenty of room to expand it with things like main accounts, character labels, profile integration, permissions and admin controls.

So yes, this is one I’d genuinely like to explore. It feels like the kind of add-on that could start with a very specific RP use case but still be useful to a much broader range of communities.
