IRC network rules

Every external IRC network has its own rules.

You are responsible for complying with the rules of each network you connect to.

Access to this service does not grant permission to bypass a network ban, connection limit or other network restriction.

Where a network reports abuse associated with an account, the report may be reviewed and action may be taken.

Resource abuse

Do not deliberately consume excessive resources or interfere with normal service availability.

Examples include:

  • Repeated reconnect loops.
  • Excessive automated commands.
  • Mass network creation.
  • Abusive use of Web Chat sessions.
  • Attempts to overload dashboard or API endpoints.
  • Repeated submission of the same action while it is already processing.

Service protection

Technical limits, rate limits and automated restrictions may be applied to protect service availability.

Attempting to bypass those protections is itself a policy violation.

Consequences

Depending on severity, action may include:

  • Feature restrictions.
  • Network removal.
  • vHost replacement.
  • Temporary suspension.
  • Permanent suspension.
  • Reporting serious abuse to the affected network or relevant provider.
