An IRC Network Will Not Connect

If you can connect to Eggy BNC but one of your IRC networks remains disconnected, the problem is usually within that network's saved connection details.

Open:

Dashboard → Networks

Check the affected network.

Server address

Confirm that the server hostname is valid and currently offered by the IRC network.

Examples:

Code:
irc.libera.chat
irc.oftc.net
irc.dal.net
irc6.undernet.org
irc6.quakenet.org

Port and SSL/TLS

Common combinations include:

Code:
+6697 — SSL/TLS
6667 — Non-TLS

The server must support the selected port and encryption mode.

Do not assume every network offers SSL/TLS on the same port.

Nickname

Check that:

  • The nickname is valid for that network.
  • It does not contain unsupported characters.
  • An alternative nickname is available where required.
  • The nickname has not been rejected or reserved.

Reconnect the network

After correcting the settings, save the network and use its Reconnect control.

Avoid submitting repeated reconnect requests while the previous attempt is still processing.

If the network still fails

Create a Connection Help thread containing:

  • The network name.
  • The saved server and port.
  • Whether SSL/TLS is enabled.
  • The exact error shown.
  • The approximate failure time.

Do not include your password.
