Identity Settings Explained

The Identity area contains supported settings that affect how your BNC appears when connecting to IRC networks.

Available controls may include:

• Ident.
• Quit message.
• Real Name/GECOS.
• Other supported identity details.

The options shown depend on your account and plan.

Real Name/GECOS

Custom Real Name/GECOS is a Premium feature.

Saving a new Real Name/GECOS may reconnect the affected user-managed network so the IRC server receives the updated identity.

Quit message

A quit message is shown when the BNC disconnects from an IRC network, where supported.

Keep it reasonable and compliant with the rules of the external IRC network.

Ident changes

Ident controls may be restricted to preserve account and service consistency.

Only use the controls presented by the dashboard.

After saving

Allow the dashboard action to finish before refreshing or submitting it again.

Some identity changes are visible only after the selected IRC network reconnects.

If the saved value does not appear after reconnection, create a support thread with the affected network, setting and approximate time.
