IPv6 vHosts and IRC Server Compatibility

Many Eggy vHosts use IPv6.

An IPv6 vHost requires the external IRC server to accept IPv6 connections.

If the selected IRC server supports IPv4 only, the network may fail to connect while an IPv6 vHost is active.

Recommended presets

For Undernet:

Code:
Server: irc6.undernet.org
Port: 6667
SSL/TLS: No

For QuakeNet:

Code:
Server: irc6.quakenet.org
Port: 6667
SSL/TLS: No

These use the networks' IPv6-capable server addresses.

Common problem

Using:

Code:
irc.undernet.org
irc.quakenet.org

with an IPv6 bindhost may resolve to an IPv4-only route and prevent the connection.

Use the irc6.* address where required.

What to check

  • Whether the active vHost uses IPv6.
  • Whether the external IRC server has an IPv6 address.
  • Whether the selected server and port are currently valid.
  • Whether the dashboard preset uses an irc6.* server.

If the network cannot use IPv6, choose an available IPv4-compatible vHost or server configuration.

Changing the server or vHost may require the affected network to reconnect.
