Scheduled maintenance will take place on 3 August 2026 to introduce new channel-management controls and update several vHosts within the dashboard.

The maintenance will focus on two areas:
  • A new Manage Channels feature for user-managed IRC networks.
  • Replacement of five existing vHosts with newer trolled.me hostnames.

Some dashboard controls may be temporarily unavailable while the changes are applied and tested. IRC networks using one of the affected vHosts may briefly reconnect during the migration.

New Manage Channels Feature

A dedicated Manage Channels option will be added to each user-managed IRC network in the dashboard.

This will allow users to manage the channels kept connected by their BNC without needing to enter manual IRC or ZNC commands.

The new controls will allow users to:
  • View the channels currently configured on a selected network.
  • Add a new channel.
  • Remove a channel that is no longer required.
  • Refresh the channel list after making a change.
  • Receive clear confirmation when a change is successful.
  • Receive an understandable error message when a change cannot be completed.

Every channel action will apply only to the selected IRC network.

For example, adding or removing a channel from DALnet will not affect channels configured on Libera, Undernet, QuakeNet or any other network on the account.

Safer Channel Management

The dashboard will validate channel requests before applying them.

This includes checking that:
  • The selected network belongs to the signed-in account.
  • A channel name has been entered.
  • The channel name is in a valid format.
  • The same channel is not added repeatedly.
  • A channel being removed exists on the selected network.
  • Changes are not accidentally applied to another network.

After a successful action, the dashboard will refresh the channel information so users can confirm that the change has been applied.

The aim is to provide a simpler and safer alternative to managing channels through raw commands, particularly for users accessing the dashboard from a phone or tablet.

vHost Changes

Five existing vHosts will be retired and replaced with newer trolled.me alternatives.

The following changes will be made:
  • expired.yoghurt.high.ping.no.apology.eggy.net → my.router.trolled.me
  • burnt.toast.low.iq.high.latency.eggy.net → nickserv.owned.my.toaster.and.trolled.me
  • homer.ate.my.wallet.on.eggy.net → nickserv.ghosted.my.mom.and.trolled.me
  • burnt.toast.packet.loss.no.regrets.eggy.net → my.router.said.skill.issue.and.trolled.me
  • the.duck.has.root.access.on.eggy.net → my.toaster.trolled.me

Users currently assigned one of the affected vHosts will be moved to the corresponding replacement.

What Existing Users Should Expect

Where an affected vHost is currently active, the relevant IRC network may briefly disconnect and reconnect while the replacement is applied.

The old hostname may remain visible until the network has completed its reconnect. Once reconnected, the new hostname should appear in IRC WHOIS.

Users will not need to manually select the replacement or update their IRC client settings.

What Will Not Change

The vHost migration will not change:
  • Your account username.
  • Your account password.
  • Your IRC nickname.
  • Your saved IRC networks.
  • Your saved channels.
  • Your configured IRC servers or ports.
  • Your dashboard login details.
  • Your Free or Premium account status.

Only the visible vHost assigned to an affected IRC network will change.

Why These vHosts Are Being Replaced

The replacement hostnames bring these options into the newer trolled.me range and provide a more consistent style across the available vHost library.

The new hostnames retain the humorous character of the previous selections while using shorter or more distinctive wording.

The retired vHosts will no longer be available for new selection after the maintenance has been completed.

Maintenance Testing

Before the maintenance is marked as complete, the following checks will be carried out:

Manage Channels

  • Channel lists load for the correct network.
  • Valid channels can be added.
  • Existing channels can be removed.
  • Duplicate channel additions are rejected.
  • Invalid channel names return a clear error.
  • Changes affect only the selected network.
  • The channel list refreshes after a successful action.
  • Controls remain usable on desktop and mobile devices.

vHost Migration

  • All five replacement hostnames are available.
  • Existing assignments are matched to the correct replacement.
  • Only affected networks reconnect.
  • New vHosts appear correctly after reconnection.
  • Dashboard information reflects the replacement hostname.
  • Unaffected vHosts remain unchanged.
  • No account or network settings are lost during migration.

During Maintenance

While the work is taking place:
  • Manage Channels controls may be temporarily unavailable.
  • Channel information may take a short time to refresh.
  • Networks using one of the affected vHosts may briefly reconnect.
  • The dashboard may temporarily display cached vHost information.
  • Repeatedly submitting the same action should be avoided while the first request is still processing.

Existing IRC connections not affected by the vHost migration are expected to continue operating normally.

After Maintenance

Once the update is complete, users will have:
  • A dedicated dashboard interface for managing channels.
  • Clear add and remove channel controls.
  • Network-specific channel changes.
  • Improved validation and error feedback.
  • Five updated trolled.me vHosts.
  • Automatic migration from the retired vHosts.
  • A more consistent vHost selection within the dashboard.

A separate announcement will be posted after the Manage Channels feature and all vHost replacements have been completed and verified.
